Coopers Brewery Best Extra Stout

“It’s smoking a pipe on an old chesterfield in front of a fire, savouring the richness of dark chocolate, dripping molasses and the boldness of roasted malt as you swirl this dark, dark brew in a brandy snifter. An image so naff, that it’s almost cool… retro even. It’s the unexpected beer you drink at a friend’s picnic, curiosity (and probably even jealousy) instigating a round of chinese whispers wondering exactly what is that girl drinking.”

There are trends, fancies and fads that come along, hit us with a bang and then simply disappear as fast as they emerged… the one hit wonders, the Right Said Freds, Psy’s Gangnam Style (thank god there’s not another one of those!), loom bands… and the list goes one. Then, there are the stayers, the quiet achievers, the lifers. These all have quality, integrity and staying power in common. They are not necessarily the loudest, fanciest or prettiest but they are robust. Their popularity ebbs and flows but it’s not built on whimsical desires. These are the retro’s of our time and of the future.

Coopers Brewery Best Extra Stout is just this, a stayer with stamina and a quietly spoken, growing fan base. It’s been around for so long (one of the first beers brewed by Thomas Cooper back in 1862!!) that it’s hitting its 3rd, 4th or 5th retro stride, becoming the new, old kid on the block… again. It’s smoking a pipe on an old chesterfield in front of a fire, savouring the richness of dark chocolate, dripping molasses and the boldness of roasted malt as you swirl this dark, dark brew in a brandy snifter. An image so naff, that it’s almost cool… retro even. It’s the unexpected beer you drink at a friend’s picnic, curiosity (and probably even jealousy) instigating a round of chinese whispers wondering exactly what is that girl drinking.

It’s black and white, it’s a retro Finders Keepers mini dress, inspired by the 60’s and designed for the 10’s. It’s Ellie Goulding serenading us with her remake of The Waterboy’s 90’s (officially retro) original, How Long Will I Love You. It’s the ever-changing face of Coopers Brewery print ads which we will be loving forever!
