Wolf of the Willows: XPA

Something Special Happened Today / True Religion: flares / Witchery: white shirt / Saba: clutch / Aloe Blacc: Green Lights

From the moment this light copper ale hits the glass, the Wolf of the Willows XPA’s vibrant aromatics reveal that something special is about to happen. A menagerie of mixed peel, honeydew melon and calming earthiness work in a peaceful, yet intriguing harmony.

Life can sometimes up and run away from you at a pace, bluring every outline and leaving you wanting, waiting for the moment you can stop and actually take a few breaths. When your world is spinning at sonic speed, there is an inevitable prioritisation which must occur and those less urgent (though probably more enjoyable) things on the to do list get relegated onto the proverbial backburner.

However, every so often, the merry-go-round slows down a notch or two, providing moments of pause, of quiet contemplation and the space to peer into the backburner filing cabinet, reach in and pry out something warranting attention. For some it could be a long overdue night out with good friends, for others it could be escaping into another world in a dimly lit movie theatre. It may be spending 100% focused time with your children (rare but oh so rewarding), an extended bike ride or even curling up on the couch and finishing the novel that has you re-reading a few pages every time you pick it up to refresh yourself on where you left off. Whatever it may be, it’s these moments you relish, the commas in your life, the uninterrupted pauses which without the fast pace would never be quite as memorable or special.

The Wolf of the Willows XPA (Extra Pale Ale) is certainly very special and a beer that can easily integrate itself into, and enhance, any number of those momentary pauses. From the second this light copper ale hits the glass, its vibrant aromatics reveal that something special is about to happen. A mélange of mixed peel, honeydew melon and calming earthiness work in a peaceful, yet intriguing harmony. It refreshes with a lingering bitterness that softens off just where it needs to, leaving you feeling life is really pretty good and you have to take the ebbs with the flows…. but you can certainly relish the ebbs whenever they come along.

It’s a relaxed True Religion flare paired with a classic white Witchery shirt. It’s a little bit extra, enhanced by the red Saba Roxy clutch. It’s Aloe Blacc’s soulful voice crooning out Green Lights and singing about what makes his life special! Stop. Breathe. Drink XPA.
